AUGUST WORKSHOPS

Sensory Yoga & Printing Workshop

Why Yoga?
Sensory yoga is an approach to help those children with sensory motor issues. Sensory yoga can help children improve their core strength needed for sitting and learning as well as help to develop a calm, alert state for focus.

The other benefits of Sensory yoga are the focus on bilateral skills. Bilateral skills are very important as they engage both sides of the brain critical for learning: language and motor skills. One side of the brain helps children access the necessary language needed for coming up with letter forms, memory of letter names and good penmanship.  The other side of the brain helps in the execution of writing/printing by giving children the message how to hold the paper correctly, how to position their head and eyes and how to use all the muscles of their arm, elbow wrist and fingers. A child needs enough pressure on the writing tool, strength in their grasp of the pencil and coordinated movements of the shoulder, elbow, wrist and fingers to carry out printing successfully.

For those children with:
Anxiety, nervousness or worries about printing, Yoga helps calm, prepare and strengthen the body and mind before printing.

For those children with:
Inattentiveness, impulsivity, resistance or boredom about printing, Yoga helps to develop improved focus, acts as calming agent for improved interest in carrying out a learning task.
